The village of Vidonice lies near a road from Pecka to the town of Dvur Kralove. There are several stories of the origin of the village’s name, one is mentioned in „Novopacko, Vol. III“ of 1929: „If it is true that the ancient settlements in Bohemia used to take the name of the family whose forefathers established them, the same can be said of Vidonice. The fi rst settler was called Vidon. His family and descendants built their houses as was necessary around their father’s dwelling, and maintained the common family name after him.“ Another story says that the name derives from a path leading to Vienna („Viden“ in Czech), thus Videnice, later distorted into Vidonice. In the 14th century the village belonged to the Belusice fort, as old records indicate. One century later, the village was divided into the Belusice part and the latter part, sold by Cenek Vysehnevsky of Barchov to Kunes of Oderady. Just as with the nearby village of Kal, Vidonice became the property of Alzbeta of Barchov in 1497. Later, Vidonice also belonged to the Pecka demesne. The most important monument in the village is the church of St John the Baptist („Sv. Jan Krtitel“). Older records confi rmed a church in Vidonice as early as in the 12th century. A vicarage is reported here in the middle of the 14th century. The vicarage in Vidonice was older that that of Pecka and the old church stood on the site of today’s church. Under the reign of Karel IV, 1 vicar and 3–4 chaplains were based in Vidonice. Later, the landlords of Pecka joined the Vidonice and Pecka vicarages, and the parish church became affiliate.

A wooden church from 1666 was rebuilt as a stone one under the Carthusian administration of property in 1732–1736. The ceiling was repaired in 1765. The Baroque church was equipped with furniture from Valdice.
